“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God “ what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

(Romans 12:2 [show] Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (ESV)

United Methodist Women emphasize a holistic approach to mission through spiritual growth, leadership development, education for mission, personal involvement through service, ecumenical cooperation, advocacy for the oppressed, and sharing resources. The focus is on more than change; it involves transformation. Joyce Sohl, former Deputy General of Women’s Division, spoke of mission in terms of transformation: ”Transformation implies a newness, a freshness, and a profound difference. Women in mission are seeking transformation. We want to transform anything that stands in opposition to the abundant life for all God’s children. We want to transform relationships between peoples, and encourage new relationships between individuals and God. We seek transformation of systems that oppress, exploit, and marginalize women, children, and youth in church and society.
